Well, that’s what KCRW DJ Anne Litt called him yesterday, and I liked his song so I looked him up. He hails from Guadalajara–land of mariachis, toured with Zoé for a moment, and now he’s gone out on his own with their blessing. I think it was a good decision. Journalist Pilar Marrero reminded me that A) The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is great (he often covers news better than “real” news channels) and that B) while people may argue about the accuracy of his statements, there is no denying that “most mainstream US media, particularly TV but also newspapers, have pushed the Honduras story to the back burner (wait, it was never in the front burner to begin with, oh well), and the story is HUGE in Latin America and constitutes the first real challenge for Obama in confronting the recent violent/interventionist/coup sponsoring past of the United States.” To read her blog, click here.

This Long Beach event is FREE and will feature anything and everything Latin American. It begins with a parade down Pine Avenue at 3 p.m. and will end in the East Village Arts District, where the festival will be in full swing from 4 – 10 p.m. The festival features a food court, dance classes, art lectures, vendor booths, a kids’ activity area and more, all celebrating the beauty and historical legacy of Latin America.
